Mehn, we prepared and prepared; ran from pillar to post to get our slides ready for presentation; some spent hours at Business Centres correcting and correcting. Finally, the D-day came: the day for my Seminar Presentation....ghen ghen ghen ghen(bad music, like in a movie). Those of us waiting to present had shown up day after day to watch our colleagues present and we had seen how those 'strong' faced lecturers had 'finished' them and praised only a few.
Now,it was the turn of 10 of us to present. I was number 10....some of those who came to watch that day decided to stay till the end(since I was the last on the list) to watch me. I use the word 'watch' and not necessarily 'listen',because that was what was actually happening, people watched you like a TV(to see your every expression, when you'd stammer,'is she scared'?ati be be lo-that's yoruba for 'and so on')not necessarily listen to you, except for a few ITK(I too know)s who'd want to listen TOO attentively to 'tackle' you with questions.
Anyway, my turn came and number 9 accidentally hit the extension box while returning to his seat and pow!the lights went off; hurray! time to catch my breath. It didn't last long anyway. Whew!
I stepped forward, though a bit nervous-as soon as I picked the microphone, all fear was gone(still happens).I presented and saw the look of rapt attention on not only my colleagues but those 'strong faced' lecturers. I made a lot of eye contact and they did too, which was not the case most times-they'd rather focus on writing scores and all that.
My presentation came to an end and people had sincere questions, including one of the strong faced lecturers(most used expression in my write-up,lol)Finally, the lecturers gave very good comments and DR YEKINI(he never has a good comment)said EXCELLENT! What?????
My colleagues were all around me,giving kudos.
I got home, knelt down to thank God and I heard Him say 'Your mouth is your tool' That was the answer to the prayer I'd been praying for a long time 'Lord why did you create me?Why am I here?' He had shown me pointers all the while ,but I just thought there was more. There is more, but it's all centred around 'THE TOOL'. Find yours!
